Betting on Philippine homes
Article Abstract:
Philippine property stocks with strong exposure to the cheap housing market appear ready to soar in 1997 as the country struggles with a massive backlog of demand in the industry. The strong demand for low-cost housing was abetted by falling interest rates and the increased inclination of banks to offer mortgage funding. Filinvest Land Inc. and C&P Homes Inc., the two leading firms in the cheap housing market, are also seen to do well in the upscale property market.

Caution over Peso's plunge
Article Abstract:
Foreign exchange dealers and financial analysts maintain that the impact of the Philippine Peso's decline on various firms will be manageable. The Central Bank has allowed the Peso to drop from an average of 26.6 against a dollar to 29.25 at the close of trading on July 11, 1997. Analysts maintain that firms with dollar based stocks stand to gain from the Peso's decline while firms with foreign debts stand to lose ground.
