Rigged
Article Abstract:
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) may block the takeover of Atlantic Richfield by BP Amoco. The FTC claims that the acquisition would give the company dominance in petroleum production in Alaska, and the FTC argues that the new company's pricing power could be used on the US west coast. There are doubts as to whether the company would possess such pricing power, and petroleum could be bought elsewhere. The FTC's move may be a reflection of changes in attitudes toward regulation at the FTC.
