Bid deal?: Is the New Deal just a repackaged youth training scheme, or is it offering something new?
Article Abstract:
The New Deal initiative aims to move people from welfare into work by making young people more employable, through the Gateway scheme, which includes basic skills training, careers advice and counselling. Employers will receive a weekly subsidy as well as 750 pounds sterling towards job training. The Employment Services (ES) is running most of the New Deal Gateway schemes, but many view the ES as a rather downmarket job agency, and a few employers have shunned the programme. However about 40,000 people signed up to the scheme in the first four months.

Small land, big money
Article Abstract:
Some observers have suggested the improvement of relations between Israel and its Arab neighbours is likely to increase both tourism and the number of infrastructural projects in the country. Israel and the UK have agreed to fund a 15 million pounds sterling joint project to help pay for public-private initiatives in research and development. United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair has set a goal of increasing the value of trade between the two countries to 3 billion pounds sterling from 2 billion pounds sterling in 1998.

Going Dutch
Article Abstract:
The Netherlands offers an attractive environment for UK small businesses looking to establish a presence in Europe. Almost all goods that sell well in the UK will sell well in the Netherlands, but exporters must be aware that the Dutch place strong emphasis on non-price factors such as after-sales service. The Dutch economy, which is based on trading and transportation, is strong, and the Netherlands offers rapid access to many other parts of Europe.
