Nonstop flight to Hong Kong

The article discusses Continental Airlines' plans to offer the first regular nonstop service between Hong Kong and New York in 2001. The route will be the first one to be used since Canada and Russia agreed to let airlines start regular service via the North Pole as of July 2000.

Solar flares deemed 'extreme' by the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration caused communication disruptions on April 2, the same day United Airlines made its first nonstop flight from Hong Kong to New York. Flights by Northwest Airlines and Continental Airlines usually routed over the North Pole were forced to take a more southern route due to increased radiation levels from the solar flare storms.

Hong Kong flight is cut

United Airlines is planning to end its nonstop service between New York and Hong Kong due to low economy-class sales. Cathay Pacific Airways is planning to begin nonstop service on the same route and Continental Airlines will maintain its nonstop Hong Kong-New York service.
