Blood and stock
Article Abstract:
The issue of who will replace paper manufacturer Jefferson Smurfit Chief Executive Michael Smurfit when he retires is creating considerable concern. Smurfit took over from his own father, but he may not necessarily be able to pass the company directly into the hands of one of his two sons. He personally controls only 7% of the company's shares, with other family members holding a further 2%. The company went public in 1964, but Smurfit has tended to pay little attention to the views of other shareholders.
