Bonds get warm welcome
Article Abstract:
The appeal of the Chinese economy to foreign investors was reflected recently in the huge demand for $1.49 billion of Chinese global bonds, divided into $485 million in five-year Eurobonds and $1 billion in 10 year U.S. dollar notes. China's economy is one of the fastest growing in the world, expanding 8% last year and 8.1% for the first 3 months of this year, due in part, analysts believe, to China's upcoming entry to the World Trade Organization.

Chinese bank creates a first with stock listing

Shanghai Pudong Development Bank takes part of the government's major privatization effort by listing shares on the Shanghai stock market. The decision does not only provide hope for increasing the role of private companies in the financial services sector, but also generates substantial resources for long-term growth. Industry experts believe that the move would eventually encourage other banks to participate in private listings.
