Bouygue's net hurt by telecom unit
Article Abstract:
French construction and communications company Bouygues S.A. reported strong losses of net profit from 115.1 million euros in 1997 to 80.8 million in 1998, a drop of 30%. The company attributes most of the loss to its telecommunications operations, without which the company would have earned a net profit of 196.4 euros. Share prices have more than tripled since rumors surfaced about Belgian financier Albert Frere buying a 1.1% share in the company.
