Bankruptcy toll rises to a record

Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi has garnered a large base of support for his reform plans. He hopes to privatize the postal-savings system, and many other state-owned corporations that have helped to cause a stagnating economy. Mr. Koizumi is taking a big risk by dismantling big businesses since he is the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party which is a staunch supporter of large corporations.
