CHENNAI'S WATER PROJECTS TO BE FINALISED BY NOV
Article Abstract:
Tamil Nadu is getting 6 tmcft of water from Krishna river of Andhra Pradesh in 1998. The Government of Tamil Nadu has intensified its work on the Telugu Ganga project. The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has projects worth Rs1,250 crore on hand. The contracts for core components of OECF- funded programmes will be finalised in November 1998. OECF is offering Rs550 crore. The World Bank is providing Rs700 crore for improving water supply to the city of Chennai. The projects funded by the OECF of Japan include a tertiary treatment plant at Kodingalur, secondary treatment plant for sewerage water, 2 pipeline laying projects, a centrally computerised monitoring and control system. COAL SUPPLY POLICY FOR PVT POWER PLANTS FINALISED
Article Abstract:
The government of India has developed a coal supply and transport policy for private thermal plants. The policy does not include fast track projects. The policy proposes to decide the penalty payments for coal supply/transport default. All the parties involved will have to adhere to the terms and conditions laid down by the policy. The policy plans to charge twice the cost of defaulted quantity of coal if a company does not offer the required quantities of coal in time. The price of coal will be determined based on the prices charged by the companies under the preferential supply agreement. (ag)

KARNATAKA TO SET UP ANOTHER IRRIGATION CORPORATION
Article Abstract:
Karnataka is to start another corporation, along the lines of the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Ltd, to implement irrigation projects in the Krishna basin. The proposed corporation is to mobilise funds for Malaprabha, Ghataprabha and other projects and look after their implementation. The state has spent about Rs4,000 crore on different irrigation projects in the Krishna basin and will need another Rs12,000 crore to complete them. (khr)
