THE NDDB MOO-VEMENT MAY SPREAD TO COFFEE
Article Abstract:
The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) plans to enter into instant coffee market. NDDB is likely to accept Coffee Board's (CB) proposal for manufacturing instant coffee. Under CB's proposal, NDDB can either set up a new instant coffee manufacturing unit with a minimum investment of Rs60 crore or can acquire CB's existing plant. The domestic instant coffee market is dominated by Nestle India Ltd, Hindustan Lever and Consolidated Coffee of Tata Tea. (gs)

Consolidated Coffee of the Tata group is thinking of acquiring up to 13,350 acres of virgin land in Uganda to grow coffee. This is a part of its expansion plan to increase its acreage from 17,000 acres at present to over 40,000 acres. It is also planning to buy up to 10,000 acres of existing coffee estate in South India. A delegation from the company visited Uganda in 1998 to hold discussions there on its proposals. (khr)
