Mitsubishi, Nissan join units

Mitsubishi Motors Corp. intends to spin off its its transmission business and integrate it with Jatco TransTechnology, a subsidiary of Nissan Motors Co., by the middle of next year. The plan calls for Nissan to hold an 80 percent stake in the new company and Mitsubishi to hold the other 20 percent. Terms of the deal are still under negotiation.

Nissan is said to accept Renault's offer
Article Abstract:
Nissan Motor Co. will accept Renault SA's bid to acquire a 35% share in the company. All of Nissan's major executives approved Renault's proposed bid. Under the terms of the offer, Renault would send two or three managers to become part of Nissan's management team. Renault's bid for the Nissan share was not exactly clear. The share could be valued at approximately 400 billion yen ($3.4 billion).

Cable & Wireless wins battle for IDC with rich offer; U.K. company's large bid reflects hopes for a boom in the Japanese telecom market

The months-long bidding war over Japanese telecommunications carrier International Digital Communications Inc (IDC) finally ended when several major shareholders agreed to sell their stakes to Cable & Wireless. Toyota Motor Corp and Itochu Corp decided to sell their stakes in IDC to the UK company following Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp's withdrawal from bidding, making Cable & Wireless the first foreign firm to take over a Japanese carrier. The successful bid also shows Japan's increasing willingness to welcome foreign companies into its telecom market.
