The cost of the United Nations' peacekeeping efforts in Cambodia are estimated at $2 billion, but the agreement reached in Paris seems about to unravel. The Khmer Rouge is refusing to go along, and failure to implement the plan could affect the US trade agreement with neighboring Vietnam.

A good sanctions guide
Article Abstract:
Harsh economic sanctions against Serbia will not stop its aggression towards its neighbors. Sanctions imposed by the United Nations, the US, and other countries only succeed about one third of the time. However, in some cases, sanctions can help and are certainly preferable to war.

Pol Pot's new threat

The Cambodian peace plan that took years of negotiation is in danger of collapsing, because Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge is refusing to cooperate with UN troops disarmament efforts. A new military offensive is likely unless the UN can somehow bring Pol Pot in line.
