Candles in the dark
Article Abstract:
There are some advantages associated with investing in eastern Germany. Workers in the region receive salaries almost as high as their counterparts in western Germany, but have fewer fringe benefits and do not take as much time off for sickness. Small companies in eastern Germany are not bound by industry-wide pay agreements. Foreign investors in the region receive subsidies from western Germany, but local companies are less eligible for subsidies than foreigners and therefore experience more difficulties.
