Channelling his energies
Article Abstract:
Peter Smith has combined architectural practice with teaching and concern about the environmental and psychological aspects of architecture throughout his career. Now retired from practice and his post as head of the Leeds architecture school, he continues to campaign for environmental reform in the construction industry. Smith's architectural work has been informed by his psychological studies and he has an empiricist view of design, teaching and writing on the subject. A pioneer of the design of churches as community centres, Smith's work is founded on the premise of creating a better environment for people.

Managing to succeed
Article Abstract:
Chris Williamson set up architectural practice, Weston Williamson in 1986. The firm is known for its innovative modern designs and the use of technology copied from other applications. Weston Williamson has been praised for its design for the London Bridge section of the Jubilee Line Extension. However, Williamson values management and planning as much as creativity. He has a degree in project management and believes architects should take full responsibility for the realisation of their designs.
