Characteristics and performance of Japanese foreign direct investment in Europe
Article Abstract:
Some 76% of Japanese companies which own European subsidiaries are involved in five major industries: chemicals, rubber and plastics, industrial machinery, electronic equipment and transportation equipment. The rubber and plastics subsidiaries employ the largest number of staff, although employee numbers in all sectors declined steadily between 1985 and 1991. The results of a survey of Japanese subsidiaries in Europe are given, including country comparisons of performance, industry and entry mode, and details of purpose of investment.
