The total retail market for chilled foods in the Russian Federation increased by 51% in 1995 over previous year's figures. The sector was dominated by dairy products, which accounted for 47% of value sales. The fastest growing product sectors were chilled desserts and dairy products. Retail sales of chilled foods grew more slowly than total consumer spending. Moreover, food prices grew more slowly than general consumer prices. Outlook for the market is discussed.

Seafood & fish in Germany

A review of the German fish market show a steady sales increase in seafood and fresh fish in 1989-1993 with a favorable expectation on future demand. The increase in sales was partly attributed to rising consumer interest in dietary and health matters. Imported fish accounted for 80% of total supply. Statistics reveal that the influx of fish products came from developing and former Eastern Bloc nations.
