Bad timing plagues Taiwan's hope of boom
Article Abstract:
The semiconductor industry's downturn spoiled the plan of Taiwan to turn Tainan into a high-technology center, following the success of Hsinchu. Tainan, which has become the poorest of the biggest cities in Taiwan, was expected to see investments of $55 billion into a government-operated industrial park, which will house expansion of companies established in Hsinchu. However, the slide of semiconductor prices made investment unwise for the meantime that even the top economic planners of the Tainan industrial district believe that the boom will have to wait.
