Code section 911 tax relief and the cost of living abroad
Article Abstract:
US citizens and permanent residents who live and are privately employed in foreign countries may benefit from the IRC section 911 exception to the US policy of taxing all income from any source. Individuals are each allowed exclusions of $70,000 and housing deductions where available. Comparisons of relative costs-of-living are important for accurate assessments of the overall financial consequences of foreign residence and employment. Reference to a case study of the Bahamas may be useful.

Income tax concerns of nonresidents working in Mexico
Article Abstract:
US expatriates working in the Mexican maquiladora industry should be aware of the potential effects of Mexico's tax laws. Income earned in Mexico by persons working in excess of a total of 183 days during any 12-month period is taxable under the Mexican Income Tax Law. Mexican tax laws also define the applicable rates, liability for taxes, payment options, and the method for proving that the number of days worked totalled less than the 183-day threshold.

Federal and state income taxation of nonresident aliens
Article Abstract:
Nonresident aliens are taxed on their US source income by the federal government and individual states. A comparison of applicable taxes at three different income brackets in New York, Minnesota, Missouri, and Arkansas may be useful. The results differ due to differences such as allowing exemptions or deductions. All tax rates are higher for higher income aliens.
