Czech bank Komercni reports bigger-than-expected loss

Czech bank CSOB posts 32% tumble in 1st-half profit

Ceskoslovenksa Obchodni Banka AS (CSOB) posted a drop of 32% in its net profits for the first-half of 1999. CSOB reported 1.023 billion koruna (28.1 million euros) during the period. During the same period in 1998, the bank reported 1.495 billion koruna in net profits. The poor performance was blamed on a fall in interest rates and on the economic recession plaguing both the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
