Company profiles: Lufthansa
Article Abstract:
Deutsche Lufthansa, Germany's national airline, has an 80% share of the German travel market if market shares of tis subsidiaries Condor and DLT are included. Liberalization of air travel, however, has eroded the carrier's market share by about 19%, according to estimates. To cut costs, the company launched in May 1997 a controversial plan to slash agency commission receipts to 5% from 9% on domestic flights and downsize its workforce. The company had a turnover of DM18,478 million in 1996, a 4.3% increase over the previous year.
