Competitive drive
Article Abstract:
The recapitalization of Asia is proceeding only slowly. It is becoming clear that Asian concerns will have to be competitive on a worldwide level if investors are to be attracted to Asia once more. So far, Asian companies have not really made any significant changes to the way they do business. They have failed to realize that both bailouts and bankruptcies will in future have to be based on economics, rather than politics, if negative reactions from investors and potential lenders are to be avoided. It will also be necessary to reassure investors that they will have rights when problems arise.

Article Abstract:
Foreign investors have generally been critical of the steps being taken by Asian governments to deal with the region's financial crisis. Their confidence in the region is dwindling, and this is in turn causing currency values to decline further. As currencies fall, there is growing pressure to raise interest rates, and this is stifling domestic demand. Introducing new capital would stabilize currencies, but most investors are currently unwilling to purchase Asian assets.
