Computer market in Japan draws more U.S. firms

Japan's computer and high-technology industries are turning to outside suppliers in an effort to enhance competitiveness and US firms are among the major beneficiaries of this trend. This is especially reflected in the software sector, where US companies are becoming increasingly prominent. Even the Japanese government has increased purchases of foreign-sourced hardware and software purchases.

Article Abstract:
China's role in producing computer hardware and India's role in producing software could lead the two nations to greater cooperation. China wants to establish its own technology for hardware, rather than simply building equipment for Western companies. And India wants to break into Western markets for software and software services.
