Article Abstract:
The conservative work of the museum housing White and Oates exhibition was taken up by Hampshire County Council, who had to keep a clear vision when painstakingly restoring the local museum. Careful planning of the works by architects Peter Davis and Giles Pitchard paid off, with a project carried out within budget, on programme and with a minimum of disruption to the museum's activities.

A range of projects and initiatives are discussed that is bound to become a new housing 'tradition' offering new options for design and construction methods. Growing trends in hybrid construction, light steel panels and modules combined with conventional steel framing are observed that is likely to increase as developments become more mixed.
