Corruption scandal may bolster Rao in elections
Article Abstract:
Political observers believe that the new corruption scandal involving several major Indian politicians could help incumbent Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao in the April 1996 elections. Several politicians, including opposition chief L.K. Advani, have been accused of involvement in illegal money transfers. The scandal has tarnished the image of opposition politicians, many of whom had been planning to use government corruption as a major theme in their campaigns.

Taiwan elections mark gradual devolution of power
Article Abstract:
Results of Taiwan's recent legislative elections indicate that the gradual transfer of power from the mainland elites who moved to Taiwan at the end of the civil war in 1949 to a new generation of Taiwan-born leaders is favored by many Taiwanese. Approval of the ruling Kuomintang's policies is in danger with the opposition parties' gains in the elections.
