Country of choice: Bihari refugees to return to Pakistan
Article Abstract:
Bangladesh and Pakistan are expected to firm up an agreement to repatriate Pakistani refugees displaced by the 1970s independence conflict. The Islamic humanitarian organization Rabita Trust was allowed to conduct a census of the Biharis and try to raise funds, but the planned repatriation faces lack of financial support from the Gulf countries, particularly Saudi Arabia. Although the repatriation would stabilize Nawaz Sharif's power base and effectively address the refugee problem, it may aggravate the race conflict between the Sindhis and the muhajirs.

Will-power needed
Article Abstract:
The Bangladesh banking system has severe problems due to an abundance of bad loans. The system is temporarily safe from a public run on bank funds because depositors have confidence in the government backing of deposits. The government guaranteed depositors' funds after a 1992 scandal caused a run on banks. However, the threat of a second crisis prompts questions about the Bangladesh system. The World Bank maintains that the Bangladesh government must reform banking laws, improve bank management and rebuild a strong central bank.
