Article Abstract:
General Motors is offering a loyalty voucher, and design innovations. The company's share of the US market has declined, and it has blamed strong demand which its capacity could not meet in much of 1999. The company's profit for 2000 could be affected by a bid to increase its market share through marketing techniques that are expensive. There is speculation that the company's chairman, Jack Smith, could be planning to retire, and he may be succeeded by vice chairman, Harry Pearce.
