Innocents abroad; Bill Clinton's commitment to Asia
Article Abstract:
President Bill Clinton's approach to US foreign policy in Asia appears to be one dictated by political expediency. The US decision to return land occupied by military bases in Okinawa was a response to activists who exploited the rape of a 12-year-old girl to orchestrate a move to remove all US forces from Japan. The general Asian view is that the current US administration has very little in the way of focused policies for Asia.

Video games: Asians in Canada say they promote hatred
Article Abstract:
Students at Canada's Carleton University are protesting a video game called Legal Enforcer which they claim reinforces Asian stereotypes and incites hatred of Chinese by inviting players to shoot at Chinese villains. The game's producer, Konami (America), Inc, denies that the game is meant to stir up racism while others point out that the game was developed in Asia. However, the students insist that the game dehumanizes Asians.
