Article Abstract:
Alistair Rowan gave a lecture 'Too Good for Glasgow - the Edinburgh College of Art,' in Edinburgh in Apr 1992. The Edinburgh College of Art building is less famous than that of the Glasgow School of Art. It arose from the initiative of PIttendrigh MacGillivray, who recommended combining four art colleges and found a site. The outside was designed to complement the Edinburgh skyline and was largely the work of architect James Forbes Smith, drawing on classical influences. An unexpected donation allowed a splendid interior design with a grand staircase.

Building a tower in place of the college kitchen
Article Abstract:
The tower of St Edmund's College, Cambridge, England is a new landmark in the town and links the incongrous existing college buildings. St Edmund's was built in several phases since its foundation in 1896. The new five storey tower forms a main entrance and links the red-brick Victorian building with a 1930s buff brick wing. As well as the entrance, the tower houses student accomodation and a seminar room which is the highest room in Cambridge. It is the second stage of a tripartate development plan for the college.
