Customer service in retailing - the next leap forward?
Article Abstract:
Retail stores in the UK can learn from the customer service programs of some of their counterparts in the US despite some basic social and cultural differences. While customer care is just emerging as a focus of retail management in the UK, it has long been a major concern of many American retailers. UK retailers will find it helpful to pattern their customer relations strategies after those of American retail stores such as Harris-Teeter Supermarkets, Nordstrom and Palais Royal.

Investment recommendations and commercial reality in Scottish grocery retailing
Article Abstract:
The accuracy of investment analysts' predictions about the Scottish grocery industry are studied. The price war which erupted between discounters in the early 1990s led to the sale of Shoprite stores to Kwik Save and takeover of Wm Low by Tesco. It is shown that although analysts gave accurate predictions of the grocery industry, they also failed to draw attention to the problems faced by Shoprite and Wm Low.
