Former advertising executive Alyque Padamsee of India remains as busy since his 1994 retirement as he was during a career that spanned many professions. He has been a theater director, an actor with a major role in the film 'Gandhi,' a social activist, and the chief executive of the Lintas India advertising concern. He says he has always specialized in communication, preferably via tv, which he considers the central medium of a post-literate age. His central interest now is in reducing friction and violence in India.

Aditya Vikram Birla's sudden death from cancer on Oct 1, 1995, robbed India of a visionary industrial leader and left his empire to an untried heir, 28-year-old son Kumar Mangalam Birla. Trained as an accountant, Kumar has not yet put his mark on any major deals, and he takes over only a year after his father began an expansion into telecommunications and financial services. To his advantage, the business, India's second-largest multinational, has strong, profitabel companies with loyal and professional mgmt.

Article Abstract:
Hong Kong's flourishing property market could suffer a setback after the failure of a major real estate deal by an unknown Chinese consortium to buy the main building from the World Trade Centre Group (WTCG). Financial experts, however, say that the stable Hong Kong property market would not be affected by the misfired property transaction. While the WTCG awaits further transactions, financial analysts are questioning the feasibility of future deals with Chinese buyers, especially with unnamed groups.
