OMAN-INDIA FERT PROJECT SHOWS UP MAJOR FLAWS
Article Abstract:
The standing committee on petroleum and chemicals has found some major irregularities in the proposed Oman India Fertiliser project. The PMO (Prime Minister's Office) had earlier identified the flaws in the project. The chairman of the committee has suggested re-evaluation of the engineering, procurement and construction contract. The project was to have been executed by October 1998. It is said to be facing trouble as Coface, the French financier of the project, has withdrawn its 40 percent commercial loans. The project is yet to furnish the new set of conditionalities sought by the foreign bankers. The project is being promoted by the Oman Oil Company, the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers and the Krishak Bharti Co-operative. (ag)
