DENMARK: PLASTIC PRODUCERS EXEMPTED FROM TAX
Article Abstract:
The new Danish environment tax, which aims at reducing the consumption of PVC and softening agents, will not be imposed on producers of plastic pipes and plastic windows, even though these products contain PVC. The reason behind this is that these products are not incinerated. However, cable producers such as NKT will not be exempted from the tax, even though neither cables are burnt. NKT will have to pay about DKr 25mn (USD 3.6mn) in PVC tax in 2000. The tax will be DKr 1.40 per kilo for products containing PVC, and DKr 3.50 per kilo for products containing so-called phthalates.

DENMARK: PIPE PRODUCERS SUED BY MUNICIPALITIES
Article Abstract:
Four major Danish municipalities have sued three producers of district heating pipes, claiming damages totaling DKr 283mn (USD 35mn). The reason behind the claims is that the municipalities believe they have paid a 25-40% overprice owing to a cartel between the producers. The three producers are ABB IC Moller (formerly owned by ABB, now owned by Alstom) and Logstor Ror and Dansk Rorindustri.
