DaimlerChrysler snares Spain's CASA, opening door to future aerospace deals
Article Abstract:
DaimlerChrysler AG succeeded in its bid to merge its Daimler-Benz Aerospace AG unit with Construcciones Aeronauticas S.A. of Spain. The non-cash deal creates the first major crossborder defense aviation company in Europe. Spain's Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales will hold about 13% of the merged company, and DaimlerChrysler will control the remaining 87%. There have been rumors that DaimlerChrysler is considering a transatlantic alliance or merger for its aerospace unit, and it is also thought that DaimlerChrysler might spin off DASA.
