Hopes that the fragile ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians might last seem optimistic after recent outbreaks of violence. Hamas guerrillas attacked the Jewish settlement of Alei Sinai, killing two people, and the Israeli response was swift and aggressive.

A people under punishment
Article Abstract:
Israel's punitive response to the Palestinian intifada or uprising against Israeli occupation is bringing poverty to many Palestinians. It is also putting pressure on social bonds amongst Palestinians, and this could produce even more violence.
