Article Abstract:
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has started the construction of its fifth and longest runway in Sep 2000. The tarmac strip is being built significantly further west of the airport's property to decrease the noise pollution carried to residents in the city of Amsterdam, Netherlands. The new run way will be operational by autumn 2003 and will only accept flights coming from the north in order to pass over areas with low population densities.
