Denel seeks profitability
Article Abstract:
Denel, a helicopter manufacturer partly owned by the South African government, hopes to secure new orders for its Rooivalk attack helicopter and become profitable to prevent the government from selling its interest in the company to private partners. The company has posted losses in FY 1998 and FY 1999, but expects to break even in Fy 2000. It is currently negotiating a deal with Algerian and Malaysian governments for a possible purchase of up to 24 Rooivalks each.

Comanche approval ... ... as US Army reveals draft future plans
Article Abstract:
The US Army's new draft of its Aviation Modernization Plan calls for the procurement of 1,213 Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche helicopters over a period of 20 years. The Comanche has already completed flight testing for a full scale development in Feb 2000. Moreover, a $3.1-billion engineering and manufacturing development phase has been approved in Apr 4, 2000. The draft plan will be submitted to the Dept of Defense Acquisition for approval.

MDH pushes for military sales
Article Abstract:
MD Helicopters is conducting a demonstration tour in South America to promote its MD600N and MD902 Explorer NOTAR-equipped helicopters. The company is targeting paramilitary markets, particularly those for law enforcement, search and rescue and patrol applications. Meanwhile, the company will deliver two Explorers to the Mexican Navy on May 2000 and two more by the end of the year.
