Denmark:Sonofon/TDC clients most frequent phone users
Article Abstract:
Statistics compiled by Telestyrelsen, the National Telecom Agency, covering the Danish telecoms market over the first six months of 2001 show that Sonofon and TDC have the best mobile telephony clients. Sonofon's clients were the most frequent mobile phone users; the average talk-time of a Sonofon mobile client was nine hours and fifteen minutes and TDC also reports high figures in this respect. The average talk time for a Danish mobile telephony client was six hours and forty-five minutes in the first six months of 2001. Telecoms analyst Mette S. Ahorlu of IDC says Sonofon and TDC have the most attractive clients. It is among these clients that the talk-time increases. New clients within the mobile telephony business will find it difficult to attract these clients away from Sonofon and TDC. Telia Mobile manager Poul Erik Olsen, however, says that despite the fact that Telia's turnover per client is lower than that of TDC and Sonofon, the company has a plan as to how to take market share in the high-end market of both the non-corporate and the corporate market.

DENMARK: TDC HAS FAITH IN UMTS
Article Abstract:
TDC, the Danish telecoms company, has faith in UMTS and believes that it will overcome the teething problems. TDC managing director Henning Dyremose says the company's attitude towards UMTS is unchanged compared with a year ago but that it will consider the UMTS costs in a matter-of-fact manner. Dyremose counts on TDC to win a UMTS licence but is not prepared to pay more than what it is worth. Telecoms consultant Torben Rune of Netplan, recommends TDC and other mobile telephony companies not to invest in UMTS as new technologies for wireless data transmission will be launched within the next year that are cheaper and faster than UMTS.

Denmark: UMTS bidders deprived of right to appeal
Article Abstract:
The Danish government requires that those telecoms companies that are to submit bids for UMTS licenses will have to give up their right to appeal against the authorities' decision in the matter. It is highly uncommon to request companies to give up their rights to appeal against a decision, says Tom Togsverd of ITEK within the Association of Danish Industries. According to him, the ministry cannot disregard EU laws and the constitution. Even telecoms analyst John Strand of Strand Consult levels criticism of the government's request.
