Did Astra get a bargain
Article Abstract:
When Astra of Switzerland, a pharmaceuticals group, acquired Fison's R&D capabilities the sale included the Loughborough research centre worth around 115 million pounds sterling and the 800 Fisons personnel. It also acquired patents on drugs in early development stages and non-exclusive access to the company's aerosol delivery technology. It did not have to undergo the public effort of a hostile bid for the entire company like the bid by Rhone Poulenc Rorer of the US, which is currently in the spotlight.
