Does poverty matter?

Poverty and inequality can be problems, for example when treatment of employees and bosses in companies in unequal and unjust. This can affect productivity and is bad corporate governance. Philanthropy is one way that the problem can be tackled by the rich.

Economic growth rates of the 20th century are exceptional and there is no certainty that they will continue. Inequality has also increased, with some countries getting poorer. The Human Development Index gives a less bleak picture of inequality, however.
