Argentina's worsening economic crisis has renewed concerns about currency boards. Argentina's currency is pegged to the dollar, with a currency board fixing the exchange rate. The currency board has been blamed for many of Argentina's troubles, but this does not mean currency boards can never work.

Argentina may escape a currency devaluation similar to the Dec 1994 devaluation of the Mexican peso. Its economy is stronger than Mexico's, and its currency is protected against speculation. Argentina's convertibility law is discussed.
