Article Abstract:
Sales of audio visual equipment in France fell between 1992-97, with imports predicted to decline by 8% during Jan-Nov 1997. Sales of audio visual equipment was worth FFr36.6 billion in 1996 which is a fall of 6.5% from 1995. Colour televisions are the highest selling item, with sales predicted to have increased by 2% from 1995-1996. Exports of domestic appliances produced in France grew by 13% in 1996 resulting in a 7% increase to the market valued at FFr21.9 billion, despite stable domestic sales. The home market for dishwashers and microwave ovens grew in 1996.

France's retail market for domestic appliances grew 6% to 20.6 billion French Francs in 1994, with turnover rising almost 50% during 1984-1994. Apparent consumption of audio visual equipment in France fell 4% to 28.5 billion French Francs in 1994 from 1993, although growth is anticipated in 1995. The domestic appliance market is also expected to grow due to improving economic conditions. Domestic appliance exports grew 12% to exceed 12 billion French Francs in 1994 over 1993. The domestic appliance and audio visual equipment markets are examined.
