Domestic appliances and consumer electronics in Italy
Article Abstract:
Production in the Italian domestic appliances sector increased 4% in value in 1997, and by 2% in volume. The home market rose by just 1.1% in value. Exports rose 5%, while imports rose 3%. Cooking appliances have not recovered from the weakness of the previous year. The audio visual sector still has problems with production down by just over 6% in value and 5% in volume. There was growth of 5.5% in value of computers and related products, and this buoyancy is expected to continue.

Small electrical appliance production in Germany totals around 3.0 billion deutschemarks a year, with Germany manufacturers and retailers increasing sourcing appliances outside Germany. The market for small electrical appliances tends to be for replacements. The main suppliers are AEG, Philips, and Bosch-Siemens, with Braun, Krups/Moulinex and Rowenta the top specialist suppliers.
