Down to earth
Article Abstract:
The Argentine economy has moved into recession, hit by low commodity prices and problems in Brazil, an important export market. Foreign borrowing costs have also increased as a result of the Russian debt default of 1998. Argentina has controlled inflation and had moved into growth with the help of a currency board, and capital flight has not been a problem in the 1999 crisis, in contrast to 1995. There is support for the currency board, but reforms are also needed to cut costs.
