EBay Inc (San Jose, CA) has acquired the German online auction house Alando.de AG. Alando, now Germany's leading auction site, was founded in March 1999. Alando claims to have over 50,000 registered users, and says it offers over 80,000 items for sale at any time. EBay has 3.8 million users and 2.1 million items on sale. Alando's European competition includes Quixell Ltd's QXL of the UK, and Ricardo.de of Germany. By the end of 1999, Alando will give up its name, becoming EBay's German subsidiary.
