Bird influenza, H5N1, has spread to wildfowl in Hungary and Slovakia causing concern for the European Union. The Commission is in controversy as to whether to vaccinate their poultry flocks as use of the vaccine could mask the disease's spread.

Domestic demand fuels Eastern Europe growth
Article Abstract:
Third-quarter economic data for Eastern and Central Europe show strong growth. Annual gross domestic product rose by 5.7% in Romania, 6.4% in Poland, and 9.4% in Slovakia. The Czech Republic is expected to report a growth rate of 5.7%.
