EUROPE: UNCERTAINTY ABOUT PROFITABILITY OF UMTS
Article Abstract:
The profitability of the future UMTS services is uncertain, and it will be extremely difficult for operators to recover the huge investment costs, the paper writes, referring to several telecom experts. Ole Mork Lauridsen, Corporate Director of Research of the Danish company GN Nettest, says the content provided by the UMTS systems will be the same as provided by the GSM systems during the first two-three years. Lars Lolk Hauge, director of the UMTS project of Tele Danmark Mobile, says GSM and UMTS supplement each other, and says several services that will be provided through UMTS can be supplied by GSM as well.
