Economies of scope in industry
Article Abstract:
The concept of economies of scope is based on changes in average cost caused by changes in the mix of production between two or more products or services. Recent research has looked at ways of measuring the extent of such economies of scope. Economies of scope usually arise when a number of related commodities or services are produced using common processing or distribution facilities, or when the cost of one output falls when the output of another increases.

The structure of business organisations and the management of human resources
Article Abstract:
Businesses need to respond and adapt to changes in both their 'task environment' and their 'general environment', and this has implications for human resource management and for the whole structure of the business. Responding to the task environment means reacting to the influences of scientific advances, shareholders, clients, staff and government legislation. The general environment is determined by cultural, political, economic and technological trends.

Section 10: UK restrictive trade practices: principles and practice in the 1990's
Article Abstract:
Any restrictive practices identified in the UK are referred to the Restrictive Practices Court. The court has had some successes, but is dogged by lack of funds and the length of time taken for cases to get to court. In some cases the fines imposed on those operating such practices have not been high enough to act as a deterrent. New legislation will attempt to remedy these faults and make UK law closer to EC regulations.
