Soon after the Septempber 11th attacks and with the airline industry in a deep slump, Dubai-based Emirates announced it was ordering 25 planes from Boeing and more than 30 from Airbus. These orders are a boost to the two aircraft makers and are a sign that Emirates expects an upswing in global travel the airline wants to be ready for. Tourism is an industry UAE hopes to develop among other alternatives to its lucrative oil industry.
