EoU POLICY TO BE FREER, GAIN GLOBAL FLAVOUR
Article Abstract:
The Government of India proposes to replace the existing scheme for export oriented units (EoUs) with a new scheme. The new scheme will not be considering EoUs as foreign territory. The new scheme proposes to execute only the B17 bond for all purposes of customs and central excise duty benefits and movement of goods. Bringing goods from DTA will not be taken as imports and the goods produced in the EoU cleared to DTA will attract only central excise duty. The export obligations of the EoUs will be monitored by the development commissioner. The new scheme proposes to connect export obligations to foreign exchange used for the import of raw materials and capital goods. The accounts will be within 30 days of the close of the quarter. (ag)

DRI UNEARTHS Rs230 CR FAKE SILSs, CBI TO INVESTIGATE
Article Abstract:
Out of 1,000 special import licences (SILs) investigated by DGFT, about 84 SILs worth of Rs230 crore have been identified as forged licences. These SILs were referred to DGFT by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). Since these cases involve outright forgery, the government has referred them to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). DRI is likely to continue with investigations exercise of DGFT to cover another 1,500 licences. DRI is hoping to expose another 100-150 forged cases with a revenue involvement of Rs70 crore. (gs)
