Article Abstract:
The UK's domestic tourism market grew 49.6% between 1993 and 1997, making it the fastest-growing domestic tourism market among major European countries. The robust growth was due to the atypical good weather and new specialized holiday niches in the domestic market. The French domestic tourism market earned the distiction of being the largest, with 156.3 million trips in 1997. Frenchmen are known to take pride in their country's scenic locations. Germans, in contrast, are opting to travel abroad, resulting in a 2.3% decline in volume between 1993 and 1997.
